Inexperienced mechanics broke my car
We came to town February 23rd and noticed some sort of leak right before entering Lubbock. We called to find a mechanic open on Saturday and found the complete auto repair. Seemed to have good reviews so gave them a shot. He told us to bring it by and he would take a look. He said the transmission is leakingavd he can fix it for $1000. We left our truck with him and got a rental car planning to return March 2ndto get truck. He called March 1st saying he would have to take it to the transmission shop because the transmission needed a part replaced and it would be a minimum of $1500 more than what we were originally quoted.
We contacted a local transmission shop that assured us the part he is referencing is a $149 part and he is charging outrageous amounts for labor and parts. They sp believe the part needs to be replaced because of the way they removed the transmisssion and seal. We called and told the shop we would be by the morning of March 3rd to pick up the vehicle and to put the parts in the back of the truck. We asked how much we owed for him taking it apart and was told
$807. We told him that seemed high considering the entire job was quoted st $1000. He then informed us that he would be chatting for thr initial consultation and that he charges $120/hour. The nor.al rate for mechanics is $80-$90/hour and according to the system they all use, the job should have only taken 4 hours to complete. We offered him $360 plus tax as that seemed fair to us. He refused and charged $807. We now have a truck that has been disassembled, nothing fixed and we are having to replace additional parts due to his negligence. A transmisssion shop in his area told us that his shop has no business dealing with transmissions. They are to do minor repairs only as they are not experienced in the larger repairs. We are considering legal action, especially if it is determined that they damaged our vehicle and costs us significantly more money to repair.
